Anne Deverteuil

Garden design

Anne de Verteuil is a garden designer and consultant with extensive experience working to both private and public commissions. Based in London, her designs are primarily for urban spaces and these range from city courtyard and roof terrace to a new university garden and planting for an urban park. Anne’s style is clean and contemporary. Her designs emphasise form and pattern and structural planting is often used in a sculptural way. Surfaces and textures play an important part in the choice of hard and soft landscaping and deciduous or ephemeral plants are always included, to add softness and movement and mark the changing of the seasons.

Garden writing

Anne is also a respected garden writer and journalist and contributes regularly to publications including: Garden Design, The English Garden, The Daily Telegraph, Hortus and others.

She is the author of a number of books on gardening and design, and most recently, co-author with Arne Maynard of Garden Design Detail.

Specialist garden visits

Throughout her years of visiting and writing about gardens, Anne has established contact with the owners and designers of many superb gardens, some private and rarely open to the public. Tailor-made tours can be arranged for individuals and small groups interested in visiting gardens off the beaten track.

Garden history

Anne has studied English Literature at Leicester University, Landscape Architecture at Birmingham Polytechnic and recently completed a Masters in Garden History at Bristol University.
